Danny Spitzberg
An applied sociologist for a cooperative economy.
I've spent the last 10 years doing product co-design and UX research with users, workers, and business leaders.
My approach involves communities collecting, analyzing, and using their own data and stories to change business and policy.
Work
I am currently the senior research analyst for a small business lender, leading studies to scale lending for hiring and healthy growth with our clients. I am also a researcher at the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, where I coordinated, edited, and contributed to a study for the 2023 POWER Act on the effects of worker ownership in low-wage sectors such as homecare, farming, and retail.
Previously, I co-founded the Workers Algorithm Observatory at Princeton in 2023, a clinic with funding from Mozilla's Tech Fund to help labor and community groups audit black-box AI and algorithmic systems. I've had roles in both enterprises and agencies since 2015. I worked at American Express to redesign tools for 1,500 internal data analysts, and at a labor law nonprofit to streamline and scale global supply chain audits.
